Psychosocial Rehabilitation & Addictions Counseling

This course examines the foundational knowledge, skills, and professional responsibilities required for entry-level practice in substance use treatment settings. Students explore counseling processes, screening and assessment, recovery principles, crisis response, case management, documentation, and ethical standards within the addiction counseling profession. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based approaches, interdisciplinary collaboration, and connection to community systems of care.
This course provides educational content aligned with the five New Jersey Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) domains and represents partial fulfillment of the educational requirements for CADC certification.
 

Designed to give students the opportunity to apply formal education to an actual work situation in the Addictions Counseling field under the supervision of the course instructor and the sponsoring Agency/Entity supervisor. In addition to the 90-hour field experience, students attend classroom sessions on a schedule determined by the course instructor.
